Mon. Aug. 09
17:30 The group arrives by bus to the Lombard Hotel in downtown Winnipeg for dinner and overnight.

Tues. Aug. 10 : Brandon Day

06:00 - Breakfast at the Lombard

06:45 - The group led by tour escort John Daly departs by private bus, heading west to Brandon, Manitoba and the Brandon Research Centre.

09:00 - Arrive at Brandon Research Centre for a tour. The Brandon Research Centre is divided into two main groups: Soil and Plant Science and Animal Science. For the group the concentration is on Soil and plant with information provided on soil-plant relationships, biochemistry, soil management, barley genetics, forage agronomy and pasture management and herbicides and weed control. A scientist will lecture and take the group to a research plot.

11:00 - The bus departs Brandon for Austin, Manitoba

11:45 - Arrive Austin Agriculture Museum for lunch and tour. This is a 55 acre site that houses a drawn, steam, gas and diesel equipment, the museum displays the evolution of farming practices from the late 1800's to the mid 1970's. The pioneer village displays the homes, schools, churches and businesses that were all part of early rural towns in Manitoba

13:30 - Depart Austin for Sunnyside Colony at Newton Siding, Manitoba

14:30 - Arrive at Sunnyside Hutterite Colony for a tour. This is a very progressive and modern Hutterite colony which exemplifies the best in a communal agricultural operation. You will be provided coffee, tea, or a soft drink during the visit.

16:15 - Depart Sunnyside and return by bus to the Lombard Hotel for dinner and overnight.

Wed. Aug 11: Cyanamid Day
08:00 - Breakfast at the Lombard

08:45 - A Cyanamid representative leads the group and departs the Lombard by bus for Oakville, Manitoba, west of Winnipeg.

09:45 - Arrive Oakville to visit the Cyanamid plots. Here the Cyanamid representative will explain the research being done on their plots.

10:45 - Depart Oakville and return back to Winnipeg

11:45 - The group arrives at the Commodity Exchange Tower in downtown Winnipeg

11:50 - Lunch is provided at the Commodity Exchange hosted by Cyanamid

13:00 - After lunch the group observes the Winnipeg Commodity Exchange in action. The Winnipeg Commodity Exchange is Canada's only exchange that provides futures and options contracts on agricultural commodities. Members include Canadian and international grain trading companies, Canadian elevator companies, processors, brokerage firms, as well as farmers and individuals. The WCE provides futures contracts on canola, flaxseed, domestic feed wheat, domestic feed barley, oats and feed peas.

13:20 - The group departs The Commodity Exchange and walks across the street to the for Canadian International Grains Institute.

13:30 - Arrive at the Canadian International Grains Institute for a tour and visit. They are given a speech on the Canadian grain industry and a tour of this unique teaching facility which features grain testing quality control laboratories, a commercial scale flour mill, a secondary processing area in which most types of baked goods and noodles can be produced under commercial conditions.

15:15 - Depart CIGI for a short one block walk back to the Lombard hotel.

18:30 - The bus transfers the group to the Forks Market and National Historic site. The Forks Market, housed in historic buildings, offers unique shopping experiences, fresh and quality foods and handicraft items. This historic site provides interpretive displays, sculptures, a river promenade, prairie garden and scenic viewpoints. Once at the Forks the group is directed to the Mondetta World Restaurant for dinner.

20:00 - Following dinner the group proceeds down a walkway to the Forks harbour and boards the Paddlewheel Princess Riverboat for an entertaining Casino Cruise. This is a wonderful evening as you cruise along the historic Red and Assiniboine Rivers.
The group will gamble with play money and towards the end of the cruise an auctioneer will auction off fun prizes with the winnings. Throughout the evening music is provided by a Dixieland/Jazz band.

24:00 - Depart Riverboat and board buses back to Lombard Hotel.

Thurs. Aug 12: Carman Day

06:45 - Breakfast at the Lombard

07:30 - Led by tour guide Crawford Jenkins the group departs by bus to Carman, Manitoba and the Brent Vankoughnet farm.

08:30 - Arrive at Vankoughnet Farm for visit. Brent Vankoughnet is the owner and manager of Agri Skills incorporated, a technology and human resource company specializing in agriculture training, consulting and applied precision research and development. He will present production and management methods plus a demonstration of Global Positioning technology.

10:30 - Depart for the nearby Carman Research Centre

10:45 - Arrive at Carman Research Centre for a tour. This is a University of Manitoba Plant Science Crop Research Centre and the group will visit plots and be provided information on disease research, chemical application, weed science research, herbicide trials and more. In addition the group will receive a demonstration from Prairie Agri Photo. This is where infrared aerial photos can be used for crop management to monitor the use of fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides to assist tillage practices by showing planting depth, weed control and soil compaction. Also it is used in monitoring drought, erosion and crop disease forecasting.

13:15 - Depart for Carman Golf Course.

13:30 - Lunch at Carman Golf Club.

14:30 - After lunch the group departs for the UGG Research Centre in Rosebank, Manitoba

15:00 - Visit the Proven Seeds United Grain Growers Research Centre. This is a research centre that develops and tests seeds for Western Canadian farmers. They are helping prairie farmers diversify with new varieties of canola, linola, barley and other crops that create better business opportunities.

16:15 - Depart Rosebank back to Winnipeg and the Lombard Hotel

20:00 - Following a cocktail reception at the Lombard the group walks across the street for dinner at Bailey's Restaurant. This is one of Winnipeg's finest restaurants

Fri. Aug 13 - Free Day

Optional sightseeing tour Oak Hammock Marsh
Lower Fort Garry - River Road

09:00 - Depart Lombard by bus with tour guide David Hatch. The group travels north of Winnipeg to renowned Oak Hammock Marsh, a 36 square kilometre management area home to 280 species of birds and hundreds of species of mammals, insects, amphibians and reptiles.

10:00 - The tour commences with a short film in the Interpretive Centre. After the film there is a guided tour of the exhibits and then out on the floating boardwalk and observation deck. Following the tour there will be about a half hour to explore the area on their own.

11:30 - The tour departs Oak Hammock for historic Lower Fort Garry. Upon arrival the group will be provided with an orientation speech about the Fort. As the group tours the Fort they will relive the drama of the fur trade era in the oldest stone fur-trading post still intact in North America. Costumed guides re-enact life as it used to be. There will be time to have lunch on their own.

15:00 - The tour departs Lower Fort Garry and commences with a drive along the River Road Heritage Parkway. There will be brief stops at Lockport with its historic St. Andrew's-on-the-Red Anglican Church (the oldest stone church in Western Canada) and the St. Andrews Rectory National Historic Park.

16:30 - Arrive back at Lombard

Optional Golf day - The Links at Quarry Oaks

With a feel reminiscent of the best Scottish designs, this spectacular course has become a must play for all golfers. Renowned Canadian architect Les Furber applied all his skill to create a golf course that could provide a golfing experience and be pleasurable for golfers of all caliber. Golf digest rated Quarry Oaks Four Stars in the 1996-97 edition of their Places to Play Magazine. Only eight courses in North America received a Five Star Rating.

07:15 - Depart the Lombard by bus for Quarry Oaks

08:00- Arrive Quarry Oaks - time for driving range, practice putting etc

08:42 - First tee off

09:09 - Last tee off

15:30 - Depart back to Lombard Gala Dinner

6:15 pm The group departs the Lombard by bus for the Winnipeg Art Gallery

6:20 pm Upon arrival the they proceed to the Gallery level of the Art Gallery where there will be a cocktail reception with drinks and hors d' oeuvres. During this time they will be entertained by a the Bob Jackson Dixieland band. The Gallery will have a distinct Manitoba theme with its wonderful art displays in rooms with impressive Tyndall stone floors and walls. Everyone will be welcome to view the galleries.

7:15/7:30 pm Following this reception the group proceeds down a beautiful grand staircase to Eckhart Hall on the main foyer. Again with the Tyndall floors and walls displaying works of art this is a magnificent setting for dinner. During dinner music will be provided by Clyde Heerah a steel pan performer.

8:15/8:30 pm Forwards the end of dinner Master of Ceremonies Philippe Habeck will take centre stage to greet the audience and introduce the evening's performers with a combination of intriguing information, audience participation and wry humour. The diverse multicultural entertainment includes performances by the following artists:

A showcase of lively and exciting sounds by the Winnipeg Korean Dance group who perform a traditional drum dance. This upbeat high tempo presentation depicts an expression of the four seasons.
A display of rich first nation culture by the Walking Wolf Dance Troupe as they perform the famous Hoop Dance.
A thrilling and athletic display of dance and theatre by the Hispanic Dance Theatre. Numbers include Spanish and traditional Latin Dances such as the Muneira, Tango, Cha Cha and Mambos.
A 15 minute show jam packed with exciting jumps, twirls and spins that showcase the famous "Hopak" by the Rozmai Ukrainian Dancers.

9:15/9:30 pm After this exciting show everyone heads up to the Penthouse level of the gallery and the Rooftop Sculpture Court. With its large fountain and reflecting pool, fine art sculptures, café tables and chairs and attractive landscaping, this distinctive space is a perfect venue to dance the night away.
A popular Winnipeg band "The Renegades" will provide dance music for all tastes.

01:00 The night ends with everyone returning to the Lombard by bus
Sat. Aug 14 Departures

07:00 - Breakfast at the Lombard. Throughout the morning the group is transferred to the Winnipeg airport and their return flights home.
