Cultural Experience Tours
Aboriginal tourism has become
a growing industry in the past few years and Manitoba
is ideally situated to provide a wonderful aboriginal
cultural experience. There are many aboriginal attractions
and facilities in Manitoba and the surrounding area
to establish a superb tour.

July 30 - August 09, 1998 July
30
Upon arrival at the Winnipeg airport the group is met
and taken to their private bus. They are then transferred
to The Hotel Fort Garry in downtown Winnipeg. Overnight
at the Hotel Fort Garry.

July 31
Breakfast at the
Fort Garry at 8:00 am. At 9:30 am the group departs
by private bus and travels west across the Manitoba
prairie to Riding Mountain National Park. There
is a stop for lunch on route in the city of Brandon.
After lunch they continue north to Riding Mountain
and Lake Katherine where the Anishinabe Village
of Shawenequanape Kipchewin is located. Upon arrival
they are met by a camp leader, given a camp welcome
and brief orientation followed by teepee assignments.
In the evening the group will have dinner at the
camp. Overnight in teepees.

August
01 Breakfast at Anishinabe.
This morning the group is taken on a guided excursion
in the forest. Lunch at Anishinabe. In the late afternoon
the group is taken by bus to view the Bison herd in
Riding Mountain National Park. After the tour they are
returned to Anishinabe for dinner. Overnight in teepees.
August 02 Breakfast
at Anishinabe. In the morning the group is given lessons
on identification of animal tracks, animals themselves,
tress, etc. Lunch at Anishinabe. This afternoon the
group is taken by bus to the Town of Wasagaming. Here
they will have an opportunity to shop for souveniers,
visit the museum, swim, rent a canoe or paddle boat
on Clear lake or relax. In the late afternoon they are
returned to Anishinabe for dinner. Overnight in teepees.
August 03 Breakfast
at Anishinabe. This morning the group will receive lessons
about the aboriginal, traditional culture. Lunch at
Anishinabe. In the afternoon the group is taken on a
bus excursion into Riding Mountain National Park for
wildlife viewing. In the late afternoon they return
for dinner at Anishinabe. Overnight in teepees.
August 04
Breakfast at Anishinabe.
This morning the group is taken to visit the nearby
Rolling River First Nation for a visit. In the late
morning they are transported back to Anishinabe. Afternoon
free to explore more of the camp on their own. Dinner
at Anishinabe in the early evening and then they will
take part in an exciting traditional Pow Wow. Overnight
in teepees. August
05 Breakfast at Anishinabe.
The group bids farewell to the camp and departs by bus
for Winnipeg and the airport. Here they board their
flight at 3:00 pm for Churchill, Manitoba. Upon arrival
at 5:30 pm they are transferred to their overnight accommodation
for the next two nights, the Churchill Motel.

August 06 Breakfast
at the motel. Today there is time to visit the
Eskimo Museum, the town complex and the Parks
Canada Reception Centre on their own. In the late
afternoon the group is transferred by bus from
the motel to the Churchill port where they board
the Sea North tour boat at 5:30 pm. They are taken
on an exciting 4 hour Beluga Whale watching tour.
The tour also includes sightseeing of Fort Prince
of Wales, cruising the coast in search of seals,
polar bears and birds plus landing at Button Bay
for a nature hike and to observe an Inuit historical
site. A box lunch will be provided for all individuals
on the tour. After the tour you are transported
back to the Churchill Motel.

07
Breakfast at the motel.
In the morning there is an opportunity to buy souvenirs
and visit more of the town on their own. There is a
short walk from the motel to the departure location
for a unique Tundra Buggy tour. At 1:00 pm they set
out on an unforgettable 4 hour excursion to experience
the summer tundra at its best. Led by guides well versed
in the natural history they will explore the many facets
of the wildlife wilderness area's delicately balanced
ecosystem. Following the tour the group returns to the
motel and pick's up their luggage and is transported
to the airport. The flight departs at 6:15 pm and arrives
in Winnipeg at 9:10 pm. They are transferred to the
Hotel Fort Garry for their overnight.

08
Breakfast at the Fort Garry. At 9:00 am they depart
by bus for eastern Manitoba and the Whiteshell
Provincial Park. They continue to the famous aboriginal
historic site of Bannock Point. Here Interpretive
guides explain the history of the site and the
stories behind the petroforms: stones laid out
on the bedrock in the shapes of turtles, snakes,
geometric designs and a Thunderbird. During the
visit to Bannock Point they will be provided with
a box lunch at a nearby campsite. In the late
afternoon the bus returns the group back to Winnipeg
and the Hotel Fort Garry. |
August 09
Breakfast at the Fort
Garry. At 9:00 am the group departs by bus for
the Winnipeg airport and their return flight home.

Anishinabe Village: Clothes suitable for outdoor camping,
hiking and rain gear, sun protection, sleeping bag
and an air mattress, insect repellent, warm jacket,
flashlight, personal items, towel and soap. The campground
is equipped with modern washroom facilities for your
convenience and comfort.

15
The group will be met at the Winnipeg airport and
taken by private motorcoach to the Pinawa Resort in
the Whiteshell Provincial Park. Dinner and overnight
at the Pinawa Resort.
July 16
This morning you depart for a full day excursion to
Bannock Point. Bannock Point is the holiest of Aboriginal
sites with Petroforms. There will be a full interpretation
program. In the evening there will be storytelling
by an elder. Overnight at the Pinawa Resort.
July 17
Today is another full excursion. This is a canoe excursion
in the Whiteshell region. Again in the evening there
will be storytelling by an elder. Overnight again
at the Pinawa Resort.
July 18
In the morning you depart the Pinawa Resort and travel
west by motorcoach arrive to the Anishinabe camp at
Riding Mountain National Park. You arrive at the Camp
in the late morning where you are welcomed and given
teepee assignments. After lunch there is a camp orientation.
Dinner with a music presentation in the evening. Overnight
in Teepees.
July 19
After breakfast you depart at sunrise to see animals,
bears, bison herd. Full day excursion in the forest
with identification of animal tracks etc. Later you
return to the Anishinabe camp for dinner and overnight
in Teepees.
July 20
Breakfast at Anishinabe then you watch and participate
in a Pow Wow today. Later you have dinner at Anishinabe
then in the evening storytelling with elders. Overnight
in Teepees
July 21
Breakfast at Anishinabe. Full day excursion to Rolling
River First Nation where there will be special activities
and spiritual encounters with elders. Later you return
to Anishinabe for dinner and overnight in Teepees.
July 22
After breakfast at Anishinabe you have a mid morning
check out then travel to Winnipeg by motorcoach. After
checking in at the Fort Garry Hotel the remainder
of the afternoon and evening is free to visit some
of Winnipeg on your own. Overnight at the Fort Garry
Hotel.

July 23
After breakfast at the
Hotel Fort Garry you check out and are transferred
by motorcoach to the Winnipeg airport. At 11:45
am you depart on Canadian flight # 1423 for Saskatoon.
You receive a light lunch on the flight. Upon
arrival at 12:40 pm you are met and taken by motorcoach
to the Wanuskewin Heritage Park.

Upon
arrival there will be an introduction to the Park
followed by a Dance Performance. Then there will
be a Building tour, a Guided Trail Walk and set
up camp with Teepee Raising at Teepee Village
site. After dinner there will be an exhibition
of Traditional Games then there will be Storytelling
around the campfire as you cook Bannock on a stick
over an open fire.

July 24
After breakfast
you are given a lesson in Craft Making and during
the remainder of the morning there are tours of
the Archeology Lab, Art Gallery and Gift shop.
Following lunch the activities continue with a
Dance Performance, a Social Dance program and
a Bison Hunt program. After dinner at the camp
you travel by motorcoach to nearby Saskatoon where
you overnight at the Best Western Inn. |

25
In the early morning
you return to Wanuskewin for breakfast. Following
breakfast you take part in a Cree language program
a Bison Bow and Arrow hunt and a guided trail walk
to an Archaeology dig site After lunch you depart
on an excursion to the Batoche National Historic Park.
This is the site of a famous battle in the Northwest
Rebellion between the Metis and the English. Later
in the day you return to Wanuskewin for dinner. Later
in the evening you return to Saskatoon to overnight
at the Best Western Inn.
July 26 - After breakfast at the hotel you check out
and are transferred to the Saskatoon airport for your
return flight.
